UPDATE January 19th 2009: Hi all, I'm back, my riding had to take a back seat due to real life circumstances and changes, I'm now happy to say that is all done with and I can get back to riding again at last. I have not been on my bike since October 12th 2008, so I'm going to have to go through some pains again getting back in to it fully, hopefully the weather will start getting a bit better soon as well.

Also, in my absence, I have bought some domain names and opened affiliate stores on them, all selling bike related products from which I earn commission, whole bikes, frames, carbon bikes, carbon frames and parts, mountain bikes, road bikes, the lot, so if you are looking for something bike related, please use my stores, this will help me to get some money together for my desperately needed new bike, my affiliates at the moment are Evans Cycles, Wiggle and Halfords. My new stores are:
Mountain Bike Frames
Carbon Bikes & Parts
Bike Lights
Exercise Bikes

UPDATE March 1st 2009: Things have not gone as planned, so I didn't get back to riding since the last update, today is March 1st, I shall be back out on my bike starting from tonight, without fail!

Welcome to Old Git On A Bike, my new home on the internet, on the site you'll find logs all of the rides I have done on my new mountain bike.

My aims when I started riding again in February 2008, after about 11 years of not being on a bike, were to lose a minimum of 2 stone (28 pounds) in weight, regain some fitness which has been lost through years of complete inactivity and smoking heavily, and also due to having some medical problems, my other aim was that by a year later in February 2009, I would be at a stage where I could ride for 40 miles at a time.

So far, I've been riding for 3 months (it's now May 2008), and just recently I've started upping the distances I am riding, a few of times I have ridden over 25 - 30 miles and felt pretty comfortable in doing it, so, riding 40 miles at a time by next year is something that I will have achieved a lot quicker than I really expected to, I now want to set myself a different challenge for next year, maybe do a 100 mile ride, or enter some sort of long distance race, not to be in it to be competetive, just to take part and finish it, I'll have to ask around and see what's available for me to do as a challenge.

My fitness regime is being done through riding the bike as often as possible, whilst dieting and eating sensibly, well, sometimes sensibly, at other times I had been stupid and I would deprive myself of meals in order to drop weight quicker, but that's really not the right way to go about losing weight, firstly, crash dieting will only lead to the weight going back on again at some point, plus, you need energy in order to be able to ride, and depriving myself of needed meals was having a negative affect at times, such as, I felt very drained during a ride and had to head home feeling completely weakened after just a few miles. Once I have dropped the required amount of weight, I will start weight training to put muscle back on my upper half where a lot of the flab has been lost from, nothing too extreme, just to bulk up and tone the muscle slightly.

As with anything I do, once I get started on something, I tend to get a bit obsessed about whatever it is I'm doing, a while ago, someone on the Bike Radar forum suggested that I should start a blog for my riding logs, in order to make it easier for people to follow, but I don't like the set up of those blogging sites as the formatting doesn't always come out right, I would rather make my own site and update the html manually, hence this site I have made, you can view my logs from the start, here Logs Archive - February 2008
